Furthermore, Marque shared how you should measure your job performance for the position as a music producer and/or engineer. He said that you have to approach each song you work on differently. You can’t use the same technique all the time. You have to switch it up each time. In other words, you have to show that you have mastered different styles of technique. For example, he said, “If you’re using a certain mic for the chorus and you’re going to another part in the song, try something different. Approach it with something new. Change the atmosphere…anything.”

No matter what your role is in the music industry you have to listen and look at things from a consumer standpoint. “Sometimes it’s hard to do, but once you do that, then you listen to it from a technical standpoint. The end result in anything you do should always be strong,” said Marque. Your end result should be your best result.

The most important piece of information that he shared dealt with relationships. Being impersonal can hurt you. “I learned that being personal with people actually helps you better than anything,” he said. No matter what, you always want to make sure you’re on good terms with the people you surround yourself with and network with. Killing a relationship in a bad manner is not a good look, especially if you have done or are doing business with that person.
